Professor Arnold Sameroff og forsker og kliniker Susan Mc Donough Arnold Sameroff is a developmental psychologist with a primary interest in the factors that contribute to mental health and psychopathology. He is engaged in a number of longitudinal projects with infants, school-age children, adolescents, and young adults to examine the effects of family, community, school and peer group on social-emotional and academic success using an ecological model of development. He is examining the transactional relations between child characteristics and parent behavior and belief systems, and between parent characteristics and their ethnic, socioeconomic, and neighborhood backgrounds. Susan McDonough is involved in research, teaching, and clinical work with families of young children. Her research program follows 260 infants and their families throughout the first four years of the children's lives. These studies explore how environmental risk factors and parent-infant relationship problems mediate the connection between early behavior problems and later emotional, social, and cognitive functioning.
